Today I want to share with you some ways you can put together your outfit such that you look slimmer than you actually are. in fact, the way you dress can actually trim you down instantly.
So then let’s dig into it.
12 Ways to Dress to Make You Look Slimmer
1. Get a Well-fitted Bra
The Foundation of any building is very important, in fact, it is everything. Most of us have bras that are not the right size and cup.
To get the right bra size, you need to go to professional. You can find one at a lingerie shop.
On the other hand, if you prefer you can learn how to measure yourself to get the right size here.
A wrong bra size has a way of making your bust look saggy and invariably make your chest area look unnecessarily big but with the right size everything is all gathered up together and the chest area put together preparing you for well-fitted tops.
Once again, if you can’t you do it by yourself, the best bet is to walk into a lingerie shop and get yourself measured for the right bra size
2. Shape Wear is a Must Have
Now you’ve got yourself some good bras. The second foundational garment you will need is shapewear. I’m positive you have heard of Spanx for instance.
Sister………, please get one.
This miraculous piece of clothing works wonders. It gathers together all the folds at the back, love handles, the tummy area and what have you into a smooth contour. As a result, you have a well-prepared ground for a well-fitted dress.
I honestly do not think any Mamas’ wardrobe is complete without shapewear.
3. Princess Seams are your new BFF
The princess seam looks like a stretched out letter C. It starts at the shoulder area and sometimes from the armpit/armhole. Then, curves in, on both sides, to form a very lazy ‘C’ stitch. This gives a loosely fitted look to any outfit.
In other words, each time you want to buy a top or a dress, try to get one with a princess cut. It gives a very smooth silhouette when you are all dressed up.
Let’s take a look at the picture above for example, you can see how good the model looks.
First of all, she has a good bra. Secondly, she’s putting on good shapewear, therefore, no folds or anything sticking out at the wrong places. The dress has a princess cut and it’s all black. Even though she’s a plus size she looks beautifully put together.

We have looked at the foundation let’s take into consideration other factors like color.
4. Black is the most slimming color
Black is quite slimming. Not just black but dark plain colors. Stay off patterns as much as possible especially large floral print, they make you look larger than you actually are.
Instead of large floral prints, go for smaller geometric prints or vertical strips.
5. Long Sleeves are great for not-so-firm arms
Do you have large arms? Then do well to go for longer sleeves when shopping for clothes. This length takes attention away from areas of the arm and focuses on your most beautiful assets.
Just like the top above, you can still have stylish tops even though the sleeves are long. Notice how your immediate attention is drawn to the neck and shoulder region and not the arm.
6. Don’t wear extremely tight tops
Never put on wear extremely tight shirts or tops with jeans. Instead, wear your favorite jeans with an A-line or flutter shirt. This will hide any problem areas and maximize your sense of style.
Take for instance the top above, it’s perfect for a plus sized Mama. Even though there are patterns on the the lace , the patterns are small in size, it’s black, and with a princess seam.
Take note of the length of the sleeve and how slimming the high-low design is.
This top is perfect for a night out! You can even pair it with a white or black pair if pants.
7. Vertical Stripes are more flattering than Horizontal Stripes
This is one of the oldest styling tricks known. Vertical stripes create long lines which makes you look taller and slimmer. Observe how tall and elegant the model above looks. This vertical stripe is so chic. Like the French would say – tres chic.
Meanwhile, horizontal stripes make you look wider and …….
8. Monochromatic outfits make you look slimmer
A monochromatic look, meaning dressing that is all in one color, can give you a taller and slimmer appearance. And, after all, what woman wouldn’t want either of those characteristics in an outfit?
Consider a black figure flattering top with a black flowing skirt in a soft fabric. For a special touch, add a trendy belt, now take a look at the new you with an instantly slimmer look.
9. Show off your best assets
10. Go for High-waisted jeans
High-waisted jeans, when worn correctly, can trick the eye into thinking you’re leaner by elongating your lower body.
The most slenderizing item to choose are slightly high-rise, slim-fitting jeans that hit directly above your belly button has a zipper fly to hold in your tummy and hits your ankle with a bit of added spandex for stretch and movement.
11. Get to know the most flattering skirt/pants length for you
It’s key to be mindful of hemlines and unwanted volume. This means staying far away from capri pants, pleated khakis, long baggy shorts or shapeless skirts.
12. Low vamp heels are best for you
What’s a vamp? It’s the portion of a shoe that cuts across your foot at the front. So, a low vamp cuts across the base of the toes, (picture on the left).
A low-cut vamp instantly elongates and slenderizes your leg when you’re wearing skirts, shorts, dresses, and even cropped pants.
While a high vamp can come up the foot and possibly up to the ankle. (Picture below)
Speaking of shoes, heels of about two to two and a half inches lift the body and makes clothes fall better, which gives a slimmer appearance.
Look for pumps with slightly pointed toes. If you’re able to find a pair that matches your skin tone, all the better to give the illusion of slim legs.
